   Applications open 29 April and close 21 May, 2024. 

  The bursary covers your registration fees for the BIG Event in Birmingham and gives limited travel and accommodation support. It is open to BIG members who are in the first five years of their professional career and have not attended a previous BIG Event (skills days and the Little Event don't count).

  Deadline: Tuesday, 21 May, 2024, 11:59 pm - sorry, late applications will not be considered.

  Criteria for assessing applications
  

  1. Applicants must be BIG members with membership beginning no later than 21 May, 2024
  2. Applicants must be within the first 5 years of their professional career in the STEM engagement sector in the UK
  3. Applicants must not have attended the BIG Event before
  4. Applications will be scored 1-5 on the following attributes:
     • demonstrable commitment to professional development;
     • demonstrable commitment to the STEM engagement sector;
     • level of positive impact of attending conference on applicant's personal and professional development; and
     • relevance of work experience.

  Other assessment considerations
  Special consideration will be given to applicants from smaller organisations and to applicants who adopt a creative and thrifty approach to their travel and accommodation costs. BIG is a not-for-profit organisation supported by its members and squeezes every last drop out of every last penny to support them.

  What will you have to do in return?
  Following attendance of the BIG Event, you will need to submit an article (approx. 400 words) for BIG’s e-newsletter about your conference attendance or a related topic which would be of use and interest to the BIG community. Expenses will be issued following receipt of this article. If writing an article isn’t for you, we are also happy to accept photos of the Event; blog posts; vlogs of your experience; or other creative content you can produce. Let's discuss event@big.uk.com

  We also hope you will be willing to give a hand at the conference where required; this gives you a great opportunity to create links with other delegates.

  What happens next?
  BIG will assess each application and attempt to award bursaries to achieve a geographic and subject area spread. You will be notified either way in the w/c 27 May, 2024. Successful applicants will receive information about the bursary amount allotted for travel and accommodation and how to claim these expenses.

  IMPORTANT: You are responsible for organising and paying for your own travel and accommodation and you will need to produce receipts for each item.

  If you are successful with your bursary application and have already booked and paid for your conference place, BIG will refund your registration fee and extend your BIG Membership for one year (or refund your membership).

  Costs

  • Full conference (all 3 days, 12 months membership, conference dinner) - £330 early bird rate* (£380 after 20th May, 2024)
  • 2-days - £290 (any 2 days, 12 months membership; conference dinner NOT included, but can be added to your basket)
  • 1-day - £150 (any 1 day, 12 months membership; conference dinner NOT included, but can be added to your basket)

  Payment

  If you are paying by invoice (purchase order) or cheque, please select the option on the payment screen.

  *Early Bird requires full payment on or before 20th May, 2024. If full payment isn't received by 20th May, your registration will be honoured at the full price until 2nd June, 2024. After this point, if we still haven't received full payment, your registration will be cancelled.

  Cancellation and Refund Policy

  Payment for all events must be received by the day of the event. If payment is not received by the day of the event, your attendance cannot be honoured at the event.

  We can, by prior arrangement only, honour your attendance at the event if an official purchase order number has been generated and is being processed by your organisation’s finance department.

  If you wish to cancel your registration:

  •  a full refund will be issued for cancellations at least 30 days prior to the event.
  • 50% refund will be issued for for cancellations at least 15 days prior to the event. 
  • 25% refund will be issued for cancellations made at least 5 days prior to the event. 
  • cancellations made less than 5 days prior to the event will not be refunded.
  • if your registration was paid by Stripe, any refunds or part-refunds will minus the small fee that BIG pays to Stripe.

  You may transfer your registration (and membership) to a colleague for no charge with up to 24-hours’ notice of the event.

  In the event of non-attendance at the event, refunds will not be given.

  • Full conference (all 3 days, 12 months membership, conference dinner) - £240 early bird rate* (£310 after 20th May, 2024)
  • 2-days  - £170 (any 2 days, 12 months membership; conference dinner NOT included, but can be added to your basket)
  • 1-day - £40 (any 1 day, 12 months membership; conference dinner NOT included, but can be added to your basket)
