Public Engagement Development Manager, STFC National Laboratories

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reflective and experienced Public Engagement Development Manager, to join our Public Engagement group to support the next phase of the strategic development of the STFC National Laboratories Public Engagement programme.  The role can be based at either the Daresbury Laboratory (Cheshire), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Oxfordshire) or the Royal Observatory Edinburgh.  

£38,318 to £42,576 pro rata (pro rata)

Permanent contract, 0.6 FTE

The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC), part of UK Research and Innovation, is one of Europe’s largest research organisations. We enable the UK’s science, computing, and engineering communities to continue their world-leading research by working with universities, national laboratories, scientific facilities, and regional campuses, in the UK and abroad. 

Public engagement with STEM is imone of STFC’s key strategic themes and we seek to make a strong national contribution in this area. The STFC National Laboratories Public Engagement (NLPE) teams are based at Daresbury, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Edinburgh are responsible for a mix of local, regional, and national Public Engagement activities.

This is an exciting forward-looking role supporting the Head of Group (who is based in Edinburgh) in the next phase of the strategic development of the National Labs PE group.  This will involve working collaboratively on multiple, complex projects and activities with the three site PE teams, and with other internal and external partners.  The main areas of work will be:

  1. Lead on the development of evaluation strategies and methodologies. 

  2. Lead and support the development of group policies and processes. 

  3. Support the development of strategic initiatives, currently the STFC Wonder initiative.

  4. Support the development of, and reporting on, strategies and annual plans.

  5. Manage small contracts and procurement 

  6. Fulfilment of all Safety Health & Environment (SHE) responsibilities, including group processes for SHE.
