Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century. The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill this gap.

The UK DRI Headquarters team is based at UCL yet works across all six of the UK DRI host institutions. Collectively the HQ team is responsible for making the distributed UK DRI community function as a single institute, with a shared culture of intensely collaborative research.

The UK DRI HQ team is now looking to recruit a Director of Communications and Engagement to provide maternity cover from January 2020. The Director of Communications and Engagement, with the support of the UK DRI communications team and institutional colleagues, leads the delivery and evaluation of our ambitious national communications strategy for the entire UK DRI. This involves coordinating communications across six leading universities, ensuring one strong voice across our seven research centres, and building strong internal communications mechanisms to ensure the hundreds of individuals that make up the UK DRI collaborate, share ideas and solve problems together. This role also involves significant engagement activities with our three founding funders, our Board of Trustees, as well as with policy makers, patients and their carers, the national and international scientific community and the wider public. The post is funded for one year.

Key Requirements

You’ll have substantial experience of working at a senior Communications manager level and delivering a full communications function, coupled with a qualification in science communication and/or marketing and a good understanding of the communications needs of a high-profile, laboratory-based scientific research environment. You’ll have expertise in digital communications, be highly IT proficient and have incisive writing and editing skills including the ability to write and edit scientific material. An understanding of the UK DRI’s structure and mission is essential, as are excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multifaceted projects and multiple deadlines.

With best wishes,

Lucy
