Salary:   £34,189 to £39,609

Interview Date:   Friday 27 September 2019

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to become a Legacy Fellow, with experience of the research environment, and promoting science communication, to coordinate activities leading to a lasting legacy from the Soils Training And Research Studentships (STARS) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT).

With a mission to create a novel and unique national training experience for the next generation of soil scientists STARS  CDT, funded by NERC and BBSRC, is a consortium of 8 organizations from around the country:

• Lancaster University
• Bangor University
• Cranfield University
• University of Nottingham
• Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
• British Geological Survey
• The James Hutton Institute
• Rothamsted Research

STARS CDT has funded 40 PhD students in 3 cohorts, the first of which are now in their third year. During the course of training these students we have amassed extensive training resources and knowledge. Our ambition is to maximize their use and leave behind a lasting legacy for all users of soil science whether in education, research, industry or policy making.

STARS CDT management is based at Lancaster Environment Centre which is the preferred site for the fellow, although it may be possible to be based with another STARS consortium member.  Responsible to the STARS Director, you will work largely independently identifying and developing legacy ideas and materials based on previous workshop outputs and discussions with the STARS Management Board, supervisors, students and stakeholders. It is likely that there will be some travel required to visit students and stakeholders around the country.

It is anticipated that the outputs will comprise a variety of media, thus identifying future-proof platforms is key to success.

You will be responsible for budget monitoring.

You will be self-motivated, have a strong interest in science communication along with excellent project management skills and the ability to deliver to targets and deadlines.

There is the option for a part-time or full time contract starting as soon as possible and running for 6 months, or the full time equivalent thereof if working part time.
