VISITOR EXPERIENCE TEAM – EXPLAINER (with PCR specialism) – TERM TIME ONLY
£18,630 per annum plus holiday allowance (rising to £19,394 plus holiday allowance after successful completion of probationary period)
37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (term time only) (Other variable hours may be available in the Science Centre during school holidays)
The International Centre for Life is a thriving science hub in the heart of Newcastle. Its purpose is to inspire everyone to explore and enjoy science and to provide an environment in which life enhancing research and medical treatments can flourish. Life is home to NHS clinics as well as Newcastle University's Biomedicine research facilities. The award-winning Life Science Centre lies at the heart of this unique development. It aspires to be most accessible and inclusive visitor attraction in the UK and has an international reputation for its work in sensory engagement.
We are recruiting for our schools team and are looking for people who are as passionate as we are about engaging people with science.
Your role will be to make a visit to Life exciting, entertaining, informative and fun. You will work primarily with schools, and occasionally on outreach in schools and community settings. You will be a confident performer, who can deliver HANDS ON science activities and curriculum linked workshops, sometimes in a lab setting.
You will have theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of molecular biology including PCR. You will be curious, enthusiastic, have excellent communication skills and enjoy presenting to audiences. You will also share our desire to help everyone understand better the relevance of science to their lives.
Comprehensive training will be provided.
This role is primarily term time. Additional hours may be available during school holidays working as an Explainer in the wider team within the Science Centre.
