Science Engagement Manager, Newcastle upon Tyne, Life Science Centre,

Salary: £40,000 to £43,000 PA 

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) permanent

Work Location: Site Based 

 

The International Centre for Life is a thriving science hub in the heart of Newcastle. Its purpose is to inspire everyone to explore and enjoy science and to provide a world class science hub where life enhancing engagement, research and clinical treatment can thrive. Life is home to NHS clinics as well as scientists and researchers from Newcastle University. Life Science Centre is at the heart of this ‘circle of science’ and aspires to be most accessible and inclusive visitor attraction in the UK. It has an international reputation for its work in sensory engagement.

 

We’re looking for a Science Engagement Manager to lead and support the delivery of high quality visitor engagement across our science centre. You’ll coach and support Life’s explainer team to help them deliver confident, welcoming and inclusive engagement, working closely with Duty Managers to ensure a consistently great visitor experience. You will also be responsible for line managing a small team of Science Engagement Producers, a Lead Maker and Science Engagement Laboratory Technician.  

 

You’ll collaborate with colleagues to understand and implement visitor feedback, help shape ideas for a range of science activities and maintain quality and consistency in the design and delivery of science engagement content for families and other audiences. 

The successful candidate will bring experience of facilitating, coaching, and line managing teams, as well as proven ability to support different engagement techniques, including performance, in a busy visitor facing environment. A genuine interest in all aspects of STEM, strong interpersonal skills, and a flexible approach to work are essential. A degree (or equivalent) in a science or relevant subject is essential. The role will require weekend working and some evening work.
