Communications Officer, Foundation for Science and Technology, London

Part time role: £22,000 pa for 24 hr/week

 

The Foundation for Science and Technology is looking to appoint a part time Communications Officer (around 24 hours per week). The postholder will be responsible for a diverse range of communication activities. This includes creating and editing content for the FST Journal, managing the Foundation’s website and social media platforms, producing analytics of communications activities, and in addition will commission and edit blogs and podcasts. As the Foundation is a small organisation, the communications officer will be involved in other activities associated with the Foundation, including supporting the delivery of the Foundation Future Leaders programme.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in writing and editing content of different types and lengths, both for online and physical publication. They will be ICT literate, familiar managing social media platforms and creating compelling and engaging content, and have experience in managing a website. The Foundation uses a number of software packages (e.g. Audacity, Kentico, Soundcloud) and full training can be given.

 

The role is designed as 24 hours per week, and can be completed flexibly to fit in with other commitments. The Foundation for Science and Technology is based in London and the post holder can work from a mixture of home and office. A work laptop will be provided, as will some support to establish a home office if desired. The Foundation organises approximately 10 events per year held in the early evening, and the Communications Officer will usually be required to be in London on these dates to support these events. Occasional travel within the UK (up to 4 times per year) may be required.

The Foundation for Science and Technology is a UK charity, providing an impartial platform for debate of policy issues that have a science, research, technology or innovation element. Established in 1977, the Foundation brings together Parliamentarians, civil servants, industrialists, researchers, learned societies, charities and others. It convenes discussion events and round tables, publishes a journal three times per year and regular blogs, and hosts a weekly podcast. It also organises the Foundation Future Leaders Programme, supporting the next generation of professionals from universities, industry and the civil service. In addition, the Foundation provides guidance on governance issues to Professional and Learned Societies.

Location: The Foundation for Science and Technology is based in London, but depending upon preference, this role can be completed in a mixture of home and office, with a minimum of 2 days per month in London.

 

Salary: £22,000 per year for 24 hours per week.

Selection process: All candidates selected for interview will be asked to submit two articles they have written for publication (print or online), in advance of the interview. Interviews will then take place either online or in person and explore the candidates skills and experience. Interview dates will be  between 21st and 30th November
