About the role

We The Curious is on a journey to become the world’s first carbon net zero and climate resilient science centre by 2030. Our sustainability story began 12 years ago and has seen significant improvements in how we manage our energy, water and waste, what we buy and sell, how we travel, and the biodiversity of our site. In 2019 we made our sector’s first climate emergency declaration and embarked on radical decarbonisation of our estate and operations. The Sustainable Futures department is a small team that receives big support from the rest of the organisation. The work to improve our own sustainability is mirrored by environmental content in activities for our audiences and is shared with our partners to promote decarbonisation across the sector.

The Sustainability Coordinator will play a key role in building the foundations upon which We The Curious’ sustainability ambitions are built. You will research best practice in sustainability, help to shape and deliver projects that reduce the organisation’s environmental impact, and support other departments in making their practices more sustainable. A major focus of the role will be working with the Head of Sustainable Futures and Carbon Manager to drive decarbonisation across the organisation on the way to carbon net zero. You will help to monitor and reduce our carbon emissions, whilst ensuring that we simultaneously become more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
