    The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an internationally renowned environmental charity, a world-leading eco centre, and one of the foremost providers of postgraduate environmental education in the UK, based near Machynlleth in Mid Wales.

    CAT provides inspiration, education and training in solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency.

    Key activities include a visitor centre where people can see solutions in action, residential, in-person and online short courses and events, vocational training, and postgraduate degrees in a wide range of sustainability-related topics.

    Our free Information Service provides advice for individuals and our Zero Carbon Britain team publishes research and works directly with councils, communities and other organisations to help transform complex economic, social and political systems.

    Normally at Company’s site in Llwyngwern, however you may be required

    to work at other locations when your job role requires it

    Hours:

    Variable 22.5 – 37.5 hrs per week

    Salary: £19,727.57 per annum pro rata

    COVID-19 considerations:

    Overview of Role

    This post is based within the Engagement Department which delivers a wide range of site activities for visitors, educational and general groups using the CAT site.  Working with the Engagement Officer, the aim of this role is to help deliver of the site visitor engagement programme. The role will support a focus on the theme of sustainable energy and STEM through the delivery of tours, themed workshops and courses. As part of CAT’s Engagement Team, the role will also deliver a range of broader activities covering CAT’s core themes to booked groups and visitors.

     

    The post holder will be expected to familiarise themselves with the set-up, delivery and clearing away the activity on the visitor circuit.

     

    The postholder will also on occasion support the work the Estates Team carrying out general site maintenance tasks when required.

    This post is subject a DBS check.

    Main Responsibilities

    Public Engagement:

     

    ·        Deliver site engagement activities including the delivery of guided site tours.

  • ·        To work as part of a team delivering onsite hands-on activities as part of the visitor programme and for visiting groups.
  • ·        To deliver practical workshop activities and courses to groups primarily on the theme of sustainable energy and related STEM subjects.
  • ·        Be responsible for the preparation of engagement activities including tools, materials and resources, and the presentation and housekeeping of the delivery spaces. 
    • Meet and greet visiting groups.
  • ·        Work with the Engagement Officer and the Estates Manager to support general estate management works as required.
    • To ensure all site users experience a high level of customer service.

     

    General duties:

     

    • To comply with Health and Safety policies including daily exhibit checks as required.
    • To comply with CAT safeguarding policies and procedures.
    • Any other duties as required by the Engagement Manager.
