    Influencing and Engagement Manager - Midlands (Education experience welcomed)

    We are seeking a candidate in the Central area of England, with experience of influencing a wide range of stakeholders, to join the Learning and Skills team at the Institute of Physics on a permanent basis.

    We particularly welcome applications from candidates with knowledge and skills in education, including the ability to build influential relationships with high-level stakeholders in primary, secondary, HE, FE, and/or the wider education sector.

    The Role

    This exciting role is integral to the IOP’s objectives of building influential relationships in England with stakeholders across society, including education and training providers in primary, secondary, HE, FE, the wider education sector, the physics community, business and industry, local and regional policy makers, third sector charities, and community groups.

    The successful candidates will join an expanding team that is bolstering the IOP’s influencing and engagement capability, enabling the organisation to leverage new relationships and deliver impact against its strategic aspirations. Ideally a specialist in education, they will work across the IOP strategy, in a matrix managed structure.

    The Influencing and Engagement Manager (Central) will work in a flexible and agile manner to support the successful delivery of the IOP’s strategy, Unlocking the Future, to drive the change required to achieve our ambitious aims on improving access to high quality physics teaching, increasing diversity and inclusion, improving skills, unlocking capabilities and public dialogue. This will be achieved by raising the profile of the IOP and physics itself to diverse audiences across the Central areas of England, to engage with and influence key organisations and individuals.

    Within the Central area of England, specific activities will be delivered in line with the identified strategic need and desired impact. This will involve maintaining existing relationships and creating new ones to amplify the work of colleagues, members, and external partners, to drive measurable change with schools and other education organisations, amongst others.

    Employment Locations Available (Remote)

    2 FTE in total to cover the Central region, which includes the East Midlands, West Midlands and East Anglia

    The Person

    You will have outstanding relationship and stakeholder management skills and demonstrable experience of influencing external and internal stakeholders with often differing needs, interests, and motivations. You will have the ability to identify opportunities, make connections and facilitate collaboration between stakeholders with areas of mutual interest that may not appear immediately obvious.

    An understanding of how to influence stakeholders to take action in contexts related to any of the challenges and aspirations set out in our strategy would be particularly welcome. The successful candidate will work across the whole IOP strategy. However, specialist skills in education would be particularly welcome in this role. Specialist knowledge of any one of the following: teaching, the school system, the FE system, the skills agenda, or higher education would also be particularly advantageous in this role.

    The Engineering Education Scheme Wales Ltd is currently seeking a Project Deliverer in the county borough of Bridgend who will work under direction of the EESW Chief Executive Officer and Lead Project Officer to successfully deliver pilot activities as part of the ‘Transforming Young Minds for Tomorrow’ project to Primary school students in Years 5 and 6 and mentoring opportunities for Secondary school students in Years 10 and 11. 

     

    The aim of the Project is to deliver interactive activities and experiences to expose both primary and secondary school pupils to the excitement and wonders of manufacturing and engineering and make them aware of the range of innovative and rewarding careers available in the Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Creative and Digital and Energy and Environment sectors in the region.  Activities developed will vary from hands-on practical engineering/manufacturing experiences to meeting industrial mentors and gaining knowledge of what Welsh manufacturers do and what they produce.

     

    The Transforming Young Minds for Tomorrow Project Deliverer will work under the Lead Project Officer to engage schools in the activities and deliver pilot sessions within the funded local authorities.  Project Deliverers will be required to assist the Lead Project Officer with developing any further activities. 

     

    This is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2022 working on the above project.

    The Royal Institution are looking for x3 Phd students to join their Digital Team for a three month internship to gain experience of digital media and science communication. These internships will run consecutively from September 2022 to July 2023, with some flexibility around exact start dates.

    You will be based at the Royal Institution offices in Mayfair, London. Working closely with all members of the Digital Team, this role will support the Ri’s digital content production and platforms. Depending on the candidate’s interests and experience, we will provide some basic training in audio and video production. A typical day will include: creating science engagement content for our social media platforms, helping film and livestream events, helping manage our YouTube channel and develop our podcasts and working on our social media and digital offering around the world famous CHRISTMAS LECTURES.

    This placement is ideal for anyone interested in learning more about digital media and harnessing its’ potential to communicate science to diverse and global audiences.

    As an Activity Deliverer, you will be responsible for delivering various STEM activities in schools.  You will deliver sessions to groups of pupils within their schools, as well as assisting the Activity Manager and other deliverers with the development of new STEM activities to be delivered across Wales.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Digital Communications Officer to join the Communications and Engagement team, to support the cutting-edge science of the John Innes Centre.

    Our digital presence is one of the most important vehicles for communicating about the John Innes Centre and our work to the outside world. The main purpose of this role is to deliver a programme of engaging digital content to effectively support the needs of the John Innes Centre and our internal and external audiences.

    The role is responsible for using a range of digital channels including websites, social media, newsletters, and internal platforms to promote key organisational messages which reflect the John Innes Centre’s work, brand, key messages and priorities to our target audiences in line with the John Innes Centre’s Engagement Strategy.

    The post holder will source and develop digital content that inspires and engages key audiences including the funders of our research and industry collaborators and is marketed effectively to attract new audiences to learn about our research.

    The post holder will work closely with internal and external partners to produce and source digital content which is engaging and optimised for accessibility and search engines.

    The ideal candidate

    You will have a degree, preferably in a life sciences subject.

    You will have a proven track record of creative digital content production, website management, and user experience design as well as experience in the use of graphic design software, in particular Adobe CC – Photoshop and Illustrator. You will have the ability to process complex information and present targeted messages to different audiences.

This is an integral, wide-ranging role assisting the Technical Manager in every aspect of managing the Maintenance department, including supporting the team and liaising on development planning and project management.

    The Camera Obscura opened in 1853; our company has been running the attraction since 1977. Unique, interactive and fun, we have five exhibition floors with a variety of exhibits and experiences inspired by science, art, history and optical illusion. We run daily demonstrations of the Victorian Camera Obscura, offer spectacular views from our rooftop terrace and have an on-site gift shop. As a listed building without a lift, access to all floors is by stairs only.  

    Our attraction appeals to all ages and all nationalities and we aim to deliver an exceptional, five star, world class visitor experience. We are in the top five most visited paid entry attractions in Scotland. 

    The Company  

    Visitor Centres Ltd owns and operates Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, Landmark Forest Adventure Park and Landmark Press in Carrbridge and Inveraray Jail in Argyll. 

     

    Key Responsibilities 

    ·         Exhibit operation maintenance and upkeep 

    ·         Daily reactive maintenance of all areas of the attraction, premises and PPE 

    ·         Planned preventative maintenance of all areas of the attraction 

    ·         Liaising with colleagues, suppliers and contractors  

    ·         Team leading and project management 

    ·         Improving current exhibits and developing new ones

    Building and Exhibit Maintenance 

    Maintaining and improving the safety, quality and functionality of the building and exhibits in order to maintain our five star visitor experience. Constructing and maintaining the premises and exhibits is largely completed in-house from our on-site workshop. The team’s collective knowledge covers programming, electronics, mechanics, joinery, and design. Alongside liaising with external contractors the team works effectively within our unique limitations:  

    ·         Tight install / maintenance times outwith opening hours 

    ·         Wear and tear of hands on exhibits 

    ·         Operating within a listed building across 8 levels without a lift 

    The role requires basic handyman skills in all areas, as well as an awareness of visitor experience and an eye for detail. The candidate is expected to tackle any maintenance job required and act as a fully competent member of the maintenance team, providing sick / holiday cover or extended hours as necessary (with time in lieu provided).  

     

    Administration  

    ·         Ensuring high standards of record keeping and documentation 

    ·         Managing the electronic project management software to schedule tasks 

    ·         Researching and implementing better ways of working including reviewing current, and or, adopting new KPIs 

     

    New Exhibit Development 

    Alongside our Technical Designer, the team also works on improving current exhibits and developing new ones. Ideally the candidate will contribute to:
