The International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) is a world-leading research centre in Edinburgh, a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University, funded primarily by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. In the course of each year, leading mathematical scientists and early-career researchers from all over the world gather in the thousands at the ICMS to exchange ideas by way of workshops and collaborative projects that advance their research and its impact. It is also the home of a unique programme called ‘Mathematics for Humanity’, which provides support to mathematical scientists working on projects with the potential to enhance human welfare.
The ICMS is seeking to appoint for a period of six to twelve months a Visiting Fellow to create high-quality visual and/or written virtual content to disseminate the work of the Centre to a wider audience.
The starting date of the Fellowship is expected to fall between January and April 2025.
The goal of the fellowship is to collaborate with the mathematicians who participate in programmes of the centre to produce work that will: A. Provide an accessible description or a suggestive depiction of the mathematical content of a selection of the programmes run by the centre. B. Serve a pedagogical function in a broad sense, whereby the general public will come to a better understanding of mathematics and mathematical thinking by engaging with the content produced. C. Give insight on the inner world of mathematicians.
In fact, a key question that should be addressed by the work(s) produced should be: `What do mathematicians do when they come together in a place like the ICMS?'
We welcome applications from a broad variety of online content creators.
It is not expected that you will have previous background in mathematics, though a familiarity with dissemination of scientific ideas would be helpful.
Your project should be built around interactions with mathematicians visiting the ICMS during the period of tenure and include activities fostering these interactions.
Space suitable for these activities will be made available.
The ICMS will provide the Visiting Fellow with access to our new website (currently under construction) and a dedicated podcast or blog, in order to reach the mathematical community and the general public.
All proposals consistent with the general aims of the Centre and of this fellowship programme will be given full consideration.
The fellowship will pay for travel, regular visits to the Centre or a period of residence, material costs, and a commission for work(s) produced.
The desired practical arrangements, including the periods you would like to stay at the Centre, can be specified in your proposal or can be discussed at the shortlisting stage.
There is some flexibility in the budget, but we anticipate an upper limit of 30,000 GBP for the project.

You’ll be responsible for Energy Saving Trust’s strategic communications and engagement with associated partners for our energy access work. You’ll manage two marketing communications executives.
You’ll work together with the energy access team and key delivery partners to devise communications strategies and plans that build the awareness, knowledge and engagement of key stakeholders in the off-grid energy access sector and important “nexus” sectors, including agriculture, humanitarian and health.
Working together with teammates and our delivery partners, you’ll harness their expertise and thought leadership to create compelling communications, campaigns and events, leveraging partnerships to amplify and extend our reach and influence.
You’ll ensure the effective engagement of our target audiences, including development organisations, implementing agencies, private sector players, policymakers, investors, learning institutions and affected communities amongst others.

Project Coordinator (Science Clubs) - Schools and Community Engagement Team (Term time only)

We are looking for an out-going person to join our Schools and Community Engagement team. You will share our passion for inspiring people to explore and enjoy science. Your role will be to co-ordinate and deliver after-school science clubs to schools across the North-East. This funded project involves working in schools and the science centre, to deliver a 6-week science club to students from year 1 to year 8. You will co-develop the content, monitor and update progress towards the project targets, deliver the activities and train and support others to deliver the content.
You will be a key contact for schools so outstanding customer service skills and excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. About the role
The UK Dementia Research Institute is looking for an energetic and self-driven communications professional with experience of digital communications and storytelling for this key new role within the Core team of the UK DRI. Working closely with the Research Communications Manager, the Senior Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for the creation and implementation of a digital communications strategy to effectively communicate key messaging and research impact from the Institute to a range of internal and external audiences including researchers, industry professionals, key partners/funders and people affected by neurodegenerative conditions. Health and Safety Coordinator

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard-working Health and Safety Coordinator to join the team. This role is reporting into the Director responsible for Health and Safety and working with the Heads of Departments to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, design and deliver annual action plans, and maintaining a safe environment for staff, visitors and tenants.
You will be responsible for reviewing Health and Safety policies and procedures, obtaining advice from external consultants on best practise, supporting annual Health and Safety Audits, undertaking site inspections, which may involve plant and equipment located on the roof or other harder to access areas. The role includes coordinating Life’s fire strategy and risk assessment, administering and providing input to the health and safety committee, administration for business continuity planning preparation for Martyn’s Law and support on GDPR.
You will have proven experience working in a similar role, and working knowledge of risk assessments, audits and delivering health and safety action plans. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, together with knowledge and experience of identifying and arranging appropriate training for staff. You will be capable of managing your own workload with minimal supervision and be working towards or interested in achieving the NEBOSH certificate.
