    Job Description

    Weekend Science Communicators play a vital role in ensuring CSC remains open and accessible to the public when demand is at its highest. A significant portion of our engagement happens on weekends, and in this role, you will help make that possible.


    As a Weekend Science Communicator, you’re right at the heart of what we do—without Communicators, there is no CSC! Your energy and enthusiasm for STEM will help spark curiosity and excitement in young people, connecting them with science in ways that are fun, meaningful and memorable.


    We’re looking for someone who’s naturally curious, confident engaging with people, and genuinely passionate about making science accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

      

    In this role, you’ll work directly with the public and community groups to create engaging STEM experiences. You’ll deliver interactive shows, workshops and events, and support open-ended exploration and conversation on the exhibit floor. We’ll provide training in public engagement—but it’s your personality and style that will bring it all to life. Authenticity is what truly connects with people.


    You’ll be based at our main venue in Cambridge. You’ll take the lead in setting up and packing down sessions, helping ensure every visitor has a smooth, high-quality experience. You’ll also help keep our engagement kit and venue infrastructure in great working order.


    Alongside delivering brilliant experiences, you’ll help us respond to what audiences need—sharing observations, contributing ideas for new content, and gathering feedback that feeds directly into how we improve. You’ll also play a part in promoting the Centre’s wider work, pointing visitors to other opportunities they might enjoy, from events and workshops to memberships.


    Key Responsibilities  

    • Create exceptional visitor experiences—positive STEM moments that can change lives!

    Working Conditions

    The primary location for this role will be Cambridge Science Centre at the Trinity Centre, Cambridge Science Park, CB4 0FN.

    Science Communicators and public engagement are at the core of everything CSC does. In this role, you will refine your science communication skills and contribute valuable insights on what you find works best in different environments and across a range of audiences. A natural progression for Weekend Science Communicators is to move into a permanent Science Communicator role as and when vacancies arise.     BACKGROUND

    Ecological Continuity Trust is a unique charity and company limited by guarantee, established in 2008 to help secure long-term ecological field experiments (LTEs) and build/maintain a national network of LTE sites. The charity is currently working with a number of other large organisational partners on a new project to enable the creation of large-scale land, freshwater, coastal and marine systems that deliver a more sustainable and resilient future for nature, people and climate.     This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to help us drive forward this important new project over the course of the next two years. We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills who can work from home with minimal supervision and take responsibility. The post carries a general responsibility to uphold the good reputation of the Charity and its partners in all communications and may very occasionally involve travel to meetings around the UK, for which expenses will be covered. Specific duties are as follows:

    • Work with the Executive Director and President of the British Ecological Society to agree dates and times for meetings of the partners, both online and in-person as required;

    Job Description

    Are you passionate about inspiring students to pursue STEM subjects by bringing new technology to classrooms across the world? Are you interested in particle detector technology and motivated to share your knowledge with others?

    As a Scientific Education Project Coordinator in the Business Development (BD) Section of the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Group within the Industry, Procurement and Knowledge Transfer (IPT) Department, you'll contribute to the TIMEPIX@school project. An initiative based on CERN technology, the TIMEPIX project aims to bring the same technology used in the International Space Station (ISS) to schools across the world.

    Based within CERN's Knowledge Transfer group, you'll be working closely with the Spokesperson of the Medipix2 Collaboration (or their appointed representative).

    Your responsibilities:

    • Creation and curation of teaching resources for the TIMEPIX@school project;
    • Creation of a users' guide to the technology;
    • Oversee logistical support for users of the technology across the globe;
    • Production and curation of short videos of role models using pixel detector technology and/or working with STEM;
    • Organisation of the annual call for proposals and the annual users meeting.

     

    Your profile

    Skills:

    The Role

As Fusion Skills Outreach Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping to support the growth of existing outreach activities and the design and development of new ones, with a focus on future fusion recruitment and skills provision.     Key Accountabilities:

    Organise and deliver (additional to the core UKAEA outreach programme) schools and university visits and workshops at the Culham site and a programme of visits from UKAEA staff to schools (primary and secondary) – with inclusive criteria for attendance.

    Devise specific ‘skills’ outreach activities 1) for the UK’s fusion powerplant design programme – STEP, specifically to support a new skills centre at STEP’s West Burton site in Nottinghamshire and 2) Fusion Skills days – where students have a high intensity engagement around fusion skills and careers + visits to site, workshops, talks etc.

    Organise, with the UKAEA education and public outreach manager, 2-3 fusion teacher conferences per year – in fusion areas of expertise and more nationally, supported with fusion related teacher materials.

    Organise a fusion presence at one education/skills focussed science festival per year.  Oversee all aspects of stand design, staffing and training – as well as delivery.

    Develop and pilot university fusion awareness campaign – growing and broadening the existing graduate ambassador scheme and developing resources to support this activity.

    Call out for a Plastic Clever Science Communicator!

    Hebden Royd C of E Primary school are looking for a skilled and experienced Science Communicator to work with on our ‘Plastic Clever Pioneers’ project. We are proudly in our 3rd year as an Eco School and we have done many inspiring and exciting environmental projects already. We want this to be our next success!

    We need you to:

    •       Help our whole school community to understand more about the problems of plastic pollution and inspire us into action
    •       Work with our Eco Councillors (19 children aged 7 to 11) to form an action plan to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic within the school
    •       Come to our Eco Fair on Saturday 7th June and deliver entertaining and educational activities or a show about plastic cleverness. This is a public, outdoor event and will be open to our local community in Hebden Bridge.

    STEM Careers Lead

    The Oxford Trust is looking for a teacher or STEM professional with a passion for inspiring the next generation about STEM careers and raising aspirations to shape and lead a reimagined Science Oxford STEM Careers Programme as the STEM Careers Lead.

    Pivotal to the role will be the ability to confidently redesign the education and engagement programmes for secondary-aged students (aged 11-18), with support from the Director of Education and Engagement and the Head of Education.  It will involve confidently networking and building strong links with a range of stakeholders including school staff, local STEM businesses, as well as regional and national STEM organisations.

    The job would suit an individual with a teacher qualification or relevant STEM engagement or science communication expertise and a track record of leading sessions with secondary-aged students.  The role will require a level of autonomy and the ability to work independently, as well as part of the wider team.
