About Our Internship Programme

Our one-year internship programme is designed to provide you with the opportunity to apply and build on the knowledge and skills you gained at university and get your graduate career off to a perfect start. From your first day you will be an integral part of the team you join.  You will have a clearly defined role and responsibilities which contribute towards our organisational goals.  You will receive on the job training, and where appropriate, complete e-learning or face to face training to enhance your knowledge and skills.

As a graduate intern you’ll also undertake a personal development programme.  This is a series of workshops designed to enhance the soft skills required to succeed in the world of work.  Some examples of the workshops offered include; communication skills, project management skills and managing yourself and your workload in the workplace.  You’ll also have a supportive mentor and line manager. More information on the programme and the benefits of joining can be found at www.sds.co.uk/intern.

The Application Process

In addition to your academic qualification we are looking for talented individuals who will help us achieve our vision for Scotland and for the future of our organisation.   The behaviours we display and the decisions we make are guided by Our Values:

We put the needs of our customers at the heart of all we do

We make use of our combined strengths and expertise to deliver the best outcomes

We demonstrate self-motivation, personal responsibility and respect

We continually improve to achieve excellence

We have aligned our recruitment processes to our organisational values. The behaviours we will assess at interview will allow you to demonstrate how you share our values:

Customer Focus, Equality & Diversity, Teamwork, Collaboration, Social Responsibility, Trust, Accountability, Integrity, Honesty, Respect, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Adaptability

It is important to us that candidates are able to demonstrate a selection of these qualities, both in the application form, and face to face at interview. This will be used as an indicator of your suitability for the role.  As team working is a big part of what we do, the interview process will also require you to take part in a group exercise. A group exercise is another way in which we can assess team working and communication skills. More information on all of this will be made available if you are successful after the initial application stage.

We’re a Disability Confident Employer

At SDS we are committed to ensuring that candidates are treated fairly throughout the recruitment process.  Should you meet the minimum essential criteria and be invited to the next stage we are able to make reasonable adjustments to the selection process.  Please use the Personal Statement section on the application form to highlight your needs or call us on 0300 013 5119 for an informal chat.  This information will only be used by HR to support you through the process and will not influence shortlisting.
