The Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum is a small independent museum located in Dunfermline, Fife. As a temporary freelance Science Engagement Officer you will be developing, piloting and delivering activities connected to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects, inspired by the museum’s collection and Andrew Carnegie’s wider contributions to science and industry.
The museum is governed by the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and has one full-time and two part-time permanent members of staff and four part-time seasonal staff.
Aim of the work:
The Museum is seeking an enthusiastic individual for the temporary freelance post of Science Engagement Officer to develop ways to engage family visitors and young learners with the museum’s science and industry themed collections (for example, damask linen weaving and Morse code); and to help make accessible some of the important phases in Andrew Carnegie’s life (such as his company’s contributions to engineering).
The post-holder will be advised by the Museum Curator/Manager during the research stage, but is expected to work independently when developing, testing and delivering the events and activities.
Depending on Scottish Government Guidelines around social distancing, some of the work output may have to be delivered online.

Key responsibilities
As the Renewables Associate, Strategic Communications, you will be responsible for:
Working with the Global Renewables Lead to develop story packages and communicate the complex, technical and fast evolving energy stories to non-specialists
Keeping a watching brief on key issues in the media, working with the Renewables Lead and other colleagues on regular updates on energy to help inform colleagues and peers in the community
