    Dunfermline – salary £23,043 (review pending)

    Fixed term contract of 24 months, 35 hours per week with possibility of extension

    The postholder will be based in our SSERC headquarters in Dunfermline. As a result of the current pandemic the successful applicant may undertake a significant amount of work from home.  This will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.

    About the role

    The post holder will support all key aspects of programme development, delivery and quality assurance with the appropriate level of support from the Project Manager and Project Officer.

    The role will include:

  • ·        Administration of the registration, training and certification procedures for new Tutor Assessors and their respective centres
  • ·        Maintaining accurate, high quality records and data for all key aspects of YSLP
  • ·        Administration of verification and award certification process for YSLs in line with SSERC’s Quality Assurance Policy and Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) requirements
  • ·        Tracking and meeting programme deadlines and key deliverables in line with the work plan and team calendar set out by the Project Manager
  • ·        Supporting YSLP delivering centres with enquiries through the YSLP inbox, linking communications and enquiries to the relevant people
  • ·        Delivering general communications within the team and to partners, working group/steering group members and staff within YSLP delivering centres
  • ·        Supporting the creation and/or quality assurance of materials and documentation produced by the YSL Project Team
  • ·        Using a suite of online digital resources to support the delivery of YSLP engagements such as information sessions, training and meetings
  • ·        Coordinating, handling and processing the large volume of data the programme yields and producing quality/concise reports from such data
  • ·        Acting as an advocate for the programme and SSERC on a national scale across all educational settings
  • ·        Supporting the development, delivery and quality assurance of all key aspects of the Young STEM Leader Programme, as set out in the work plan by the Project Manager
  • ·        Supporting the ongoing cycle of improvement of the programme based on feedback from young people, staff involved in the programme and other key partners/stakeholders
  • ·        Producing agendas and minutes from  meetings
  • ·        Creating or supporting the creation of reports to key partners/stakeholders.

  • About you

  • The post holder will have:

    • Experience in an administrative role, organising, prioritising and managing your time effectively 
    • Attention to detail and confidentiality when dealing with information 
    • A positive attitude and confidence towards working on a programme for Scotland’s young people
    • Experience of employment in a fast-paced role, demonstrating positivity, independence and initiative
    • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills

    Excellent IT skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office and email.

     

    About SSERC

    SSERC is a local authority shared service, providing support across all thirty-two Scottish Education Authorities.  Our services are available to elected members and officers of Local Authorities, teachers, student teachers and technicians.

  • About the Young STEM Leader Programme

  • The Young STEM Leader Programme (YSLP) is derived from the Scottish Government’s Strategy for STEM Education and Training (2017), specifically that there will be the establishment of a new Young STEM Leaders programme to stimulate and strengthen the development of peer mentoring and inspiration in STEM for children and young people by children and young people.  YSLP is offered across CfE Second, Third and Fourth Levels and SCQF Levels 4, 5 and 6.

     

    This programme is being led by SSERC in partnership with:

    • Science Centres (Aberdeen, Dundee, Dynamic Earth (Edinburgh), Glasgow)
    • Science Festivals
    • Three Scottish STEM Ambassador Hubs (East, North and West)
    • Young Scot
    • Science Skills Academy
    • Youthlink Scotland
    • Education Scotland
    • Scottish Mentoring Network

     

    Qualifications

    Educated to SCQF Level 8 or equivalent relevant experience.

     

    Essential Criteria

    • Ability to prioritise workload and share tasks as appropriate
    • Ability to act with independence and initiative
    • Highly motivated, proactive with a can-do attitude, and eager to achieve results in a multi-functional role
    • Excellent standard of attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,  telephone manner and/or customer service skills, with the ability to act as an ambassador for the business
    • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
    • Excellent IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • Willingness to travel to events across Scotland if and when required

     

    Desirable Criteria

    • Knowledge of the Scottish educational context (STEM) and/or experience of working with Scotland’s young people
    • A passion for the many learning opportunities that STEM offers young people and educators
    • Previous experience of project working in an educational context
    • Experience using online meeting platforms such as Teams, Zoom and Google Meets
    • Experience of using social media and other digital platforms for professional outputs
    • Driving Licence.

     

  • The post holder will be required to work 35 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
