    The Engineering Education Scheme Wales Ltd is currently seeking an Administrative and Marketing assistant who will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator to provide marketing and administrative support for the day-to-day running of the STEM Cymru 2 Project and EESW. 

    This is initially a fixed term contract until 31st March 2022 (with the possibility of extension to June 2023 depending on funding).

    The hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday and will be based at the Waterton Centre, Bridgend. 

    The salary for this position will be up to £23,500 per annum (depending on experience), with an allowance of 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) plus designated closure days between the Christmas and New Year period.

    The Shark Trust, the UK-based charity working around the world for positive change, is looking for a science communicator. You will join our team and lead on an exciting new programme of work, changing the way that we talk about sharks and their conservation. Our goal, quite simply, is to make campaigns and projects ever more engaging and to boost support for our vital cause.

    Through video, blogs, infographics, social media and good old talking, you’ll be responsible for producing a continuous, targeted stream of communication to support discovery learning, boost engagement and drive conservation action.

    You’ll join a small team of very focused and committed individuals with a huge remit. You’ll be able to work on your own initiative and coordinate with internal colleagues and external contractors and partners.

    Digital Editor – The Evidence Base®

    Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

    Reporting to a Senior Editor in the Digital team at Future Science Group (https://www.future-science-group.com/), this role will see you manage one of our specialized online communities, tailored towards the real-world evidence and health economics community (https://www.evidencebaseonline.com/). The role will oversee the content of this online resource, including, but not limited to, editing, writing and posting of news; commissioning and writing articles and conducting interviews; liaising with sales, marketing and journal editors; management of social media channels; and effective management of the website’s Ambassadors; acting as figurehead for the website and its products; leveraging a range of media (graphics, videos etc) to tell a story. Building and maintaining relevant relationships will be a key performance indicator in order to grow a community of key opinion leaders and members. This position will also see you support our Events Director in the development and content creation around a sister virtual/in-person event, launching soon.

    On a day-to-day basis, you will work across a range of different editorial and commercially-led projects. You will have responsibility for ensuring the quality and consistency of the website and all related products, as well as acting as a figurehead for the products.

    In this role you will develop content management, communication and editorial skills. You will also work closely with your line manager to develop a robust content and outreach strategy.

    We are looking for graduates with a strong academic background in life sciences or other relevant subject (2.1 or above), or someone with 1–2 years of editorial experience who is looking for their next opportunity.

    All applicants must have a keen interest in scientific publishing and the enthusiasm to learn and establish a career in publishing. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines, while maintaining high standards, have excellent organization and time-management skills, an eye for detail, and be keen to build their knowledge of digital publishing.     We The Curious is due to open in May for the first time since March 2020 with a brand-new exhibition! This is an exciting time to come on board as Exhibitions Engineer and be part of the Exhibitions team. Based in our onsite workshop you will ensure that every visitor receives the best quality experience by delivering a comprehensive programme of preventative and reactive maintenance for all our exhibitions and workshop equipment. The role will also include refurbishment and construction of in-house interactive exhibits, set work and props.

    We The Curious includes 200 different exhibits over two floors, incorporating water, pneumatics, lighting, electronic, mechanical and computer systems; therefore a general knowledge and understanding in all the general principles and an ability to fault find and problem solve is essential.

    A leadership qualification and/or training would be desirable for this role, as would education or training in systems thinking practice.     with a team of technicians; producing popular hands-on event programmes for UCL staff,

    Main purpose of the job

    The Events Assistant will support the Events Manager to deliver creative and inspiring events,

    talks and activities that celebrate materials and making for a wide-ranging audience of UCL

    students, staff and the public, including young people, community organisations and families.

    The Events Assistant will provide administrative support and assistance at events themselves, as

    well as assisting with pre- and post-event organisation and admin. For the moment, all events are

    Duties and responsibilities

    The post-holder will be part of the Institute of Making team, assisting in three areas of work. In

    this role you will:

    Public-facing services:

     Act as initial point of contact for all event enquiries (in person, by telephone or by email): deal

    with these quickly, thoroughly and with politeness and courtesy, where necessary consulting

    with your manager.

     Give technical support with online event technologies such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc.

     Work with Events Manager to draft social media post text and prepare images.

    Events administration

     Upload new events listings onto the website.

     Update and maintain the Institute of Making calendars.

     Manage participant lists and registration processes for events through online events.

    management systems (e.g. Eventbrite and Institute of Making’s member booking system)

     Undertake finance admin such as processing purchase orders, invoices and expenses, and

    setting up new suppliers.

     Source and order materials and equipment for events.

     Put together postal resource kits for participants, event slides, and any other event resources

    needed.

     Take notes at events meetings.

     Maintain event photography archive and events log.

    Organisational tasks

     Assist in communicating with deliverers and service providers.

     Work closely with the Institute of Making team to ensure that events are well coordinated and

    well communicated.

     Update staff on the events happening on a weekly basis and make suggestions for staff

    attendance based on interest and current projects.

     Assist with research for events, including identifying contacts and themes, and testing making

    processes for events.

    Other duties

     The post may require occasional evening or weekend working hours.

     Take UCL Finance training and UCL Health & Safety training on starting the role.

     Continue to develop skills and knowledge in events work practices, policies and procedures.
