Engagement Officer, Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh

FT (35h/week), 4-year fixed term, October 2025 start preferred

UE06 £34,610 (starting salary)

We’re advertising a new, full-time public engagement practitioner role in my team at the University of Edinburgh’s Roslin Institute, which is funded for four years thanks to two external grant awards. We’re looking for someone with a science background (biology desirable but not essential) and experience of leading the delivery of science engagement and/or science learning activities, to join the team and support the delivery of our Public Engagement with Research programme.

Our programme includes a wide range of activities, with the overall aims of breaking down barriers between science and society and demonstrating that science is for everyone. We have a significant focus on engaging young people with our animal bioscience research, both at our purpose-built engagement lab at the University’s Easter Bush Campus (www.ebsoc.ed.ac.uk), and via an increasing amount of outreach to schools in remote, rural areas of Scotland. This latter expansion is the reason for growing our team, and the new post will involve work on campus and on outreach visits, requiring a certain amount of flexibility.

Due to the amount of hands-on, lab-based engagement in our programme, we are looking for someone with at least basic (ideally biology-focused) lab skills, and we are very open to hearing about all  relevant experience – a research background and/or PhD level qualifications are not required.

For full information and how to apply, please see the posting on the University of Edinburgh’s job site: https://elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1001/job/12905

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Monday 25 August, and we will be conducting in-person interviews at the Easter Bush Science Outreach Centre on Thursday 4 September. For candidates travelling from outside Edinburgh, travel expenses will be reimbursed.

If you have any questions about the role before applying, please get in touch – my details are below. And please spread the word – we’re keen to get the best person for this post!

Best wishes,

Nicola
