    Communications Officer

    The Myrovlytis Trust has an exciting opportunity for a skilled, outgoing, enthusiastic individual to join our team as a part time Communications Officer.

    The successful candidate will be passionate about raising awareness of the charity through our digital channels. They will have experience in content writing, social media management and updating websites. A qualification or working experience within a life science background is essential.

    Science Editor, The Content Engine (Remote) 

    We are looking for two talented, creative and entrepreneurial account managers to join our team. One is a permanent full-time role and the other is Maternity Cover, with the potential to extend the contract on completion. Both roles are fully remote.

    In these roles, you’ll be pitching stories and writing, editing and reviewing content across a range of formats. Successful candidates will be working with science and tech organisations like Gavi - the Vaccine Alliance, ETH Zurich, GESDA and CYBATHLON.

    What we need:

    • At least four years experience in digital communication or journalism
    • Background in science writing highly desirable
    • Experience in working in a fast-paced, digital environment
    • Confident and experienced in the use of cloud-based technologies
    • Working language English, proficiency in one or more additional languages an advantage

    Reporting to: Editor-in -Chief
    Salary: GBP 32,000 to 42,000
    Hours: 40 per week
    Holiday: 25 days p/a plus national holidays
    Contract Duration: Full time, permanent
    Location: The Content Engine has a team of 25 remote staff in the UK and a ten person head office in Geneva, Switzerland. While we have a strong preference for these remote roles to be UK-based, they can be performed from elsewhere, subject to local employment rules and the ability to work on CET time zone

    The UK Atomic Energy Authority researches fusion energy and related technologies with the aim of positioning the UK as a leader in sustainable nuclear energy.  Harnessing fusion (the power source of the sun and stars) here on Earth promises abundant, safe and low carbon electricity for future generations.

     

    UKAEA operates two major fusion experiments – the European JET facility and the UKs own MAST Upgrade experiment at its Culham Science Centre HQ in Oxfordshire.  There is also a growing technology programme in areas vital in realising fusion power - such as robotics, materials science, tritium technology and component testing and validation at Culham and a new UKAEA centre in South Yorkshire.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic casual education communicator to join our Outreach Team.

    Learn by Design is a market leading Education Outreach company that since 1995 has been working

    to provide schools, children and young people with enriching educational experiences. We often

    work on behalf of employers and public sector clients to develop and deliver exciting workshops,

    events, programmes and competitions aimed at raising young people’s aspirations or inspiring them

    into particular careers, pathways or sectors.

    What are we looking for?

    We are looking for a casual education communicator to deliver our workshops to school pupils of a

    variety of ages at schools across the country. Full training will be given.

    Experience and Requirements

    • We are looking for confident and flexible individuals to complement our lively team.

    • Experience working in a classroom environment or working with young people preferable,

    but not essential as full training will be provided.

    • Knowledge and interest of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths)

    subjects preferred, but not essential.

    • Full UK driving licence required and access to own transport

    Key skills

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a range of people, from young people

    to external clients, teachers and volunteers.

    Key details

    Day rate: Between £60 and £110 per day based on the length of delivery. A ‘standard’ local day

    (without an overnight stay) is paid at £90. A generous budget will be provided for lunch; if staying

    overnight, a hotel, dinner and breakfast will be provided.

    Working hours: The successful candidates will be offered a zero hour contract, with flexibility to

    choose their own working days to fit around other part time roles or commitments. Given the nature

    of the service that we provide, the hours of work will vary from day to day. Early morning starts and

    overnight stays should be expected.

    Contract type: Zero hour contract. Applications are also accepted from candidates wishing to act as

    a freelance staff member, i.e. staff who invoice the company based on their days worked. Day rates

    will be negotiated individually in this instance.

    This is an exciting time for Centre of the Cell. STEMPod is currently undergoing a £438,000 refurbishment which will provide the space with state-of-the-art computer and film technology and a refresh of activities and film to reflect the latest in biomedical research at Queen Mary University of London. There is also funding secured for a series of new interactives, shows and workshops to be developed and delivered in 2023-24.

     

    To support the next stages of our development plans, we are looking to appoint an Explainer for Centre of the Cell. You will be the first point of contact for visitors to Centre of the Cell, delivering high-quality science shows and experiences to visitors at Centre of the Cell and on outreach in schools.

    Join the NCCPE team as our Communications Lead

    The National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) is looking for an experienced communications professional to lead on our communications strategy and activities, and to play a critical role in building our reputation as a change agent in the higher education sector.

     

    Grade G - £35,333 to £42,155 per annum. Part-time working 22.5 hours per week, fixed Term for 2 years.
    Bristol based – we work flexibly (hybrid) but the successful candidate will need to be able to travel to Bristol when necessary.

    The successful candidate will shape our strategy and delivery plans, oversee all our communication channels, develop and curate content to showcase the Centre’s work, and support the NCCPE directors and team to maximise the impact of our work.

    This part-time role will enable you to make the most of your communications skills and experience, to further shape and enhance the NCCPE’s reputation and brand as a national centre of expertise in public engagement.

    DIGITAL PRODUCER (SPACE)

    Life recently upgraded our much-loved planetarium with a new state of the art Digistar 7 system that engages and inspires visitors with space and astronomy content.  We are looking to recruit a creative and imaginative person to be our Digital Producer to lead on the creation of the planetarium programme and other digital content in the Science Centre’s Space Zone. You will work with and train teams across the Science Centre to ensure Life offers a creative and unique space experience for visitors. 

     

    The successful candidate will be a great communicator and confident team player. You will be creative and imaginative, with the ability and experience to produce excellent visual and digital stories and content. Prior experience of operating a planetarium is desirable. Full training will be given.

    Explainer (full time), Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement

    Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is looking to recruit a full time Explainer to join our Engagement Team, to engage visitors with the science and heritage of this internationally significant site, providing answers to their questions, introducing them to exhibits and describing Jodrell Bank’s science, engineering and heritage in a friendly, efficient and informative way. This is a public-facing role, although it will also sometimes include elements of organising and supporting other activities in the Centre such as festivals and other events. Ideal candidates should be knowledgeable and passionate about science and astronomy, with the ability to instil that passion in others.

    Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is one of The University of Manchester’s Cultural Institutions and offers opportunities for visitors to engage with the science, heritage and culture of Jodrell Bank through a year-round visitor experience via our exhibitions, grounds, events and festivals. We were established in 2011 and typically welcome around 160,000 annual visitors per year. Jodrell Bank was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019 in recognition of its internationally significant heritage, science and cultural impact.

    In June 2022 the Centre opened the NLHF-funded First Light Pavilion which broadens the Centre’s offer by bringing in heritage and cultural engagement alongside science.

    Hours per week:  35 hours (full time). This post involves working 5 days over 7 on a rota basis with regular weekend working, with some evenings and Bank Holidays
