Consultants are an integral part of the Barker Langham team, undertaking the planning and delivery of our projects, briefing and collating research while having the ability to interpret complex information in an engaging, informative manner. 

This role is an exciting opportunity to apply your Science Communication skills and broad Life Sciences knowledge and background as a crucial part of the Content and Interpretation team for a ground-breaking Science Centre for children and young people. You will be joining the team to help research, write, and refine exhibit briefs developed in outline in previous phases and to ensure the smooth running of the content development as the project moves into the detailed design phase.


  • Support Interpretation Lead in researching and drafting detailed exhibit briefs, storyboards, curatorial narratives and script outlines for exhibits and AV treatments for review

  • Liaise with Research Lead and ensure that all scientific content is engaging, robust and complies with international standards and relevant curricula

  • Lead on Content/Interpretation Workstream coordination to include:

    • Leading on day-to-day design/content liaison, updating collaborative tracking documents as needed

    • Attending and keeping records of project content workshops and meetings 

    • Managing content input for exhibit content management database 

  • While the core focus of this role will be the Science Centre project referred to above, there will be scope to work on other projects and competitions across our international portfolio.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Life Sciences degree at 2:1 or above (essential)

  • Science Communication or Museum Studies qualification (desirable)

  • Self motivated, organised, and adept at working as both part of a team and individually (essential)


  • Experience developing interpretation and science communication for a museum or science centre (or similar)

  • Experience writing and editing for a general audience 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite and Google documents and drive

  • Experience working collaboratively on live shared documents (google drive and similar)
