Cancer Research UK’s Research Engagement and Research Information teams create memorable communications and opportunities for face-to-face engagement between researchers, CRUK supporters and the public, so that people understand and value the role of research in beating cancer, and take action to support CRUK. We work across the organisation with colleagues from Fundraising, Communications, Policy and Information to ensure that supporters can learn about and engage with CRUK research in inspiring and creative ways.

At the Crick we are creating a new role that combines writing compelling copy about Crick research and our fundraising priorities, with developing & delivering events that raise awareness of the Crick’s broad research programme and how such work helps CRUK achieve its vision.

Research is at the core of our strategy for beating cancer, and connecting people to that research helps us to continue our life-saving work.

We’re looking for an ambitious team-player to…

Build strong relationships with researchers, identify appropriate researchers to feature in fundraising proposals and participate in events, write compelling copy about their work, and facilitate their involvement in CRUK’s engagement activities

Deliver creative and engaging scientific content in a variety of formats: written, oral, video/virtual reality, social media, live events, interactive experiences

Act as the Crick science expert for CRUK, drafting the fundraising case for support, writing science content for funding proposals and donor updates, working in partnership with the Philanthropy team

Deliver a busy programme of engagement opportunities and lab tours at the Crick for the fundraising team based at Crick and CRUK as a whole

Support a programme of targeted cultivation and stewardship of major and principal gift level prospects and donors as defined by the Crick Fundraising team

Act as a conduit between the Crick and Cancer Research UK to manage demand for events and activities at the institute, and facilitate appropriate supporter access to researchers

Crick Public Engagement, Communications teams regarding your projects and the wider CRUK agenda

relationship building skills and ability to encourage researchers and the public to support CRUK and the Crick

strong organisational skills and event production experience, and ability to think on your feet to ensure successful delivery of a busy programme of events and an engagement programme in high demand

influencing and diplomacy skills – negotiating support and buy-in from a wide range of stakeholders, and managing relationships with tact and discretion

credibility – ability to establish credibility quickly by being professional, knowledgeable and dependable
