Oxford Festival growsThis year the Oxfordshire based festival has been extended to four regional parts spread out throughout the year. Part I will take place in Oxford (21 January - 4 February 2000) with events for families, schools and the public. For families there will be a day of workshops, shows and performances on the themes of 'Circus, Light, Stars and Magic' and a wide range of hands-on activities at a local shopping centre. Evening events will include Dr Neil Johnson talking about the science of complexity in his lecture 'Predicting the Unpredictable', Dr Peter Kyberd tracing the history and future development of artificial limbs in 'From Captain Hook to Robocop' and a Festival Forum looking at GMOs which will be chaired by Judith Hann, with contributions from Sir Walter Bodmer, Professor Christopher Leaver and Dr Evan Harris MP. There will be a touring programme of shows and workshops for local schools as well as masterclasses run by local companies and a Teachers' Seminar entitled 'Whose Science is It Anyway?'. Events will also be run by other local organisations such as the Pegasus Theatre, the Botanic Garden and the University Museum of Natural History and there are strong links with Maths Year 2000's inaugural festival of mathematics, MathFest, which will be held in Oxford during January.
