Techniquest announce award winners for Techniquest / Pantechnicon Millennium Awards Scheme

The original party machine (Mark II)
A Heath-Robinson style, trailer-sized device that converts pedal power into various forma of energy. Tours venues in North Wales with a science show using the machine. David Alexander (£14,000).

Science on the buses
Inspired by “Poems on the Underground” in London these posters appear on Cardiff buses and ask questions of contemporary science. The four themes are UV Light, cancer, BSE and Life on Mars. Frank Burnett (£10,170).

Flight on the Welsh border
A science theatre show and hands-on workshop on the theme of flight. Clare Purcell (£12,000).

Cycling to work
A bike-powered large mobile panoramic camera obscura.  The award also covers a series of workshops using the camera. Paul Brewer (£15,000).

Expotech
A range of plays, workshops and presentations on science themes around Wales. Sarah Isaacs (£13,799).

The March of Time
Work with community groups to develop workshops on a theme of time. Andrew O’Rourke (£14,270).

Solar System sculpture for Wales
A scale model Solar System the size of Wales. Richard Weston (£14,900).

A planetary celebration
Varied program of theatre, workshops and video on theme of global environment. Based at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Paul Allen (£14,490).

Hands-on paint
Hands-on activities in Galleries and Arts Centres on the science of paints and painting. Joy Horton (£14,500).

Seeing the wind
Sculptures that respond to the effects of wind action. Peter Jones (£15,000).

The Ecohome
Touring theatre show on the science behind creating an environmental friendly home. Christopher Michael (£15,000).

Rachel’s Rainbow
Puppetry used to explain scientific principles. Stephen Sharples (£14,400).

Mumbles Medieval Fayre
A range of medieval activities which demonstrate scientific principles. Andy Shercliff (£14,800).
