Millennium awards scheme

The Royal Society and British Association Millennium Awards scheme is a new and prestigious scheme to encourage public understanding of science and technology in the community. In total £1.5 millions will be distributed under the scheme. Awards will range from £1,000 to £10,000, or exceptionally, £15,000 for groups, but normally be in the region of £3,000.

The Awards are open to scientists, engineers and others with knowledge of science and technology who want to team up with a community group - e.g.. a pub, a church, the local amateur dramatics society, Brownies - to work together on a joint project.  A tailor-made partnership between a scientist and a community group must form the basis of every proposal. The Millennium Awards are a new opportunity for you to share your subject with your local community.  To enable you to learn something new or concentrate on a community science project 100 per cent - we can buy out your time or cover the costs of taking unpaid leave as long as you put your new skills or experiences to use in the community.

There are two funding rounds remaining in the life of the scheme. Closing dates are 30 June 1998 and 31 December 1998.

If you require any further information, or would like to discuss your ideas prior to application, then please do not hesitate to contact me. Meenal Gupta, Millennium Awards Administrator on 020 7973 3069.
