Welcome to the first proper BIG News of 2000 (the last one slipped in by accident). This year, BIG hopes to raise its profile, and get into a position where it can act as a voice for everyone involved in interactivity. There are some doubters out there who don't believe that BIG can (or should) achieve this, but I hope they are wrong.

Many members of BIG have other avenues for representation, it they work for a large institution or are a relatively senior manager. BIG is the only organisation that joins them with freelancers, junior staff and staff of small organisations around the country. If these people are to have a voice, at the moment BIG is it.
Phew, I'll get off the soapbox. As part of the profile-raising, BIG has a new identity (see News), which in turn has led to a redesign of BIG News. I hope this makes things clearer and easier to read, but I expect that this will evolve over the next few issues. As ever, all thoughts, comments etc. will be gratefully received. If you mark your letters "for publication", then maybe some real debate (on the newsletter or anything else) can happen.

We are seeing some interesting conversations of the chat-list at the moment. If you haven't already joined, and have access to email, you can take part in this all-year BIG Event.

Send a blank email to: big-chat-subscribe@onelist.com to join the list, and you will begin to receive the messages posted to the group.

To post a message yourself, send it to big-chat@onelist.com. We will shortly be opening the list to non-members for a trial period to encourage more people to join BIG.

Finally, some apologies: First of all, the last newsletter was horrendously late. This was partly due to my over-enjoyment of Christmas and New Year, and was exacerbated by a series of printing problems (I use a PC - they use a Mac).

Hopefully, this year will see some better time keeping on my part (although working on a large project that opens in June might delay the summer issue a bit!) I must also apologise for a factual error in my Millennium Projects article last time: the millennium wheel (or London Eye to give it its proper name) is not a lottery-funded project. All the money came from private sources, which makes it even more ironic that it is the most popular of the millennium projects.

Enough of this. I hope you enjoy this issue of BIG News, and I promise not to bore everyone about the trip to India (I'll let Melanie and co do that for me).

Best Wishes, Andy
